Battle at Seravezza October 1944 A.D Luckett’s final resting place and place of death would be at the Battle at Seravezza. He was with his group (Buffalo Soldiers) in Seravezza, Italy where they were at war with the German Army. According to the account of soldier Ivan J. Houston, the night of the war was quite fierce because they were fighting in unfavorable conditions as it was hard to discern the sounds of thunder and lightning from the sounds of gunshots.
The Buffalo Soldiers had a mission of transporting materials to Company K on top of Mt. Canale. The journey was filled with perils as when they were climbing up the mountain as they lost at least one man, and many wounded out of the 12 that went up from the German machine guns. The arrival up the mountain was not the worst part of the excursion. There was more turmoil when they had reached the mountain.
At the top of the mountain, semi-literate private Jake McInnis was at battle with more German soldiers. He would later earn a Silver Star Medal for his involvement in the battle, but besides that, there were many casualties with Luckett’s squadmates. There were 77casualties, wounded, and missing in action from the Battle of Seravezza. A.D Luckett would be one of those unfortunate men who would be killed in action from that War and his body was investigated but never recovered after the war Burial He was memorialized at the Florence American Cemetery Via Cassia S.N. 50023 in Tavarnuzze (Firenze), Italy. His name would also be included the Tablets of the Missing located in Cambridge, United Kingdom.
